(SHOALS) - A Bedford man was killed Monday afternoon after a tree fell on the semi-tractor he was driving on U.S. 50 near Shoals.
According to an Indiana State Police report, 33-year-old Eric Gootee was driving a 2008 Kenworth truck and trailer, owned by Hawkins Bailey Warehouse, eastbound on U.S. 50 near Rama Dye Road or Buffalo Bottoms around 3:30 p.m. when a large tree on the southside of the highway uprooted and fell across the roadway onto the semi.
The tree crashed through the windshield and passenger compartment, fatally injuring Gootee.
Gootee was pronounced deceased at the scene.
U.S. 50 was closed for more than two hours while the crash was investigated and the scene was cleared.
