(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man arrested Sunday after sexually assaulting a woman in a wheelchair is facing new charges.
Police had charged 20-year-old Austin Bishop with two counts of rape by force while armed with a deadly weapon, criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon and sexual battery by threat of deadly force.
He is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a with $100,000 surety and $5,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Monroe Circuit Court II.
The victim told police that that Bishop had came to visit and after entering her apartment, locked the door and pulled out a pocket knife, Police say he held the blade to the 20-year-old woman's neck threatening to cut her throat if she screamed.
He then pulled the bottom of her wheelchair up causing the woman to fall back. He then ordered her to undress and pinned her to the floor and sexually assaulted her.
Bishop told police he committed the crime because he had not taken his schizophrenia medication.
