(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington Utilities has issued a Sanitary Sewer Overflow advisory for the 100 block fo West Grimes Lane following areas after an overflow was confirmed on Sunday, November 5.
Crews established the rain event that occurred on Sunday, November 5, was the primary contributor to this SSO. The estimated flow from this SSO was determined to be approximately 31,600 gallons.
CBU crews followed the proper clean-up protocol, and no signs of untreated sewage were found on the ground. However, residents in the aforementioned area is advised to take precautions when coming into contact with untreated sewage that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Any individual who has come into direct contact with untreated sewage is advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
Reducing the number of sanitary sewer overflows is a major emphasis of CBU's commitment to create a more efficient and reliable wastewater collection and treatment system.
The City of Bloomington Utilities also is committed to transparency with respect to the residents of this community. This includes issuing public advisories in the event that a confirmed sanitary sewer overflow has occurred.
