(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham told the commissioners Tuesday morning the number of inmates incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail remain steady.
As of Monday morning, there were 177 inmates housed at the jail, of those 41 were females, 19 were Level 6 felons and there were 4 Department of Correction holds.
"For the past six months the numbers have remained pretty steady," Sheriff Branham says. "We are at 90 percent capacity on average."
The jail can house 180 inmates.

Lawrence County Highway crews continue to patch county roads, install culverts and are hauling shot rock to prepare roadways for paving in the spring.
Crew also paved the bridge approaches on Tunnelton Road and will be repairing some weak concrete on the bridge, using a concrete epoxy fill.
Lawrence County Highway Superintendent Holmes told commissioners the grant to apply for federal funds to significantly reduce the road sign replacement cost to the county to meet the latest federal retro-reflectivity standards set by the Federal Highway Administration has been sent for consideration. If awarded the grant, the funds will be used to replace signs in District 1. These funds will not replace road name signs.
Holmes says bids to replace Bridge 170 on Stove Road and Bridge 78 on Pumphouse Road. Bids will be opened on December 12th at the next commissioners meeting.
The county has purchased two right of ways for Bridge 67 on Lawrenceport Road.
Each one costs $750.
"Somehow because of a surveying mistake residents owned part of the road, the bridge and the river," Holmes add. "I am not sure what happened."
Holmes told the commissioner he hopes to bid the replacement for the bridge in January.
