(NEEDMORE) - An intended controlled fire at a home on Old State Road 37 spread after the homeowner left it unattended.
At 1:43 p.m. volunteer firefighters from Perry, Marshall, Shawswick and Oolitic were called to the home at 1040 Old State Road 37 after the homeowner reported he had been burning some brush and had went inside to go eat dinner and watch some television.
When the man went out to check on the fire it had spread to the woods.
The fire burned around 3 acres.
Firefighters were at the scene until 6:11 p.m. extinguishing the blaze.
Firefighters ask residents not to leave a controlled burn unattended.
