(AVOCA) - A Bedford man was arrested after Lawrence County Police were called to a domestic fight at State Road 37 and Patton Hill Friday night.
Police arrested 43-year-old Michael J. Corps of Springville on a charge of battery causing serious bodily injury.
Police received the call at 5:19 p.m. after a report of a male throwing items from a vehicle and sped off leaving a female behind.
Police found the female with a knot on her left eye.
"An ambulance was summoned and other officers arrived on the scene," says Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults. "She was transported to IU Health Bedford."
Upon further investigating police learned the battery had taken place at Corps' home in Greene County.
"At some point the victim wanted to leave and Corps was bringing her back to Lawrence County," Chief Deputy Shoults added. " During this time the victim reported she was hit in the face by Mr. Corps, and she tried to call a relative and 911 and Corps hung the phone up each time."
When the two reached the Avoca area the victim reported seeing a police car and attempted to flag the officer down and that is when Mr Corps hit her again.
"The next thing she remembered was being in an officers patrol car," Chief Deputy Shoults added. "Greene County Police was notified of the case and later located Mr. Corps in Greene County where he was arrested without incident and transported back to Lawrence County and arrested on the battery charge."
