(SULLIVAN) - An early-morning crash on Thanksgiving morning caused the death of a Sullivan man.
According to Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom, 27-year-old Landon Vaughn of Sullivan died early Thursday morning in a crash on County Road 350 West, near Old State Road 54.
Sheriff Cottom says Vaughn was the passenger in a a Subaru driven by 28-year-old Parker German of Sullivan.
Police say that at approximately 4:25 a.m. German failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, cross a ditch before flipping several times into a soy bean field and then caught fire.
Vaughn was ejected from the vehicle. Police say German was able to escape the burning vehicle and called 911.
Dispatchers then instructed German in CPR until Sullivan County Sgt. Carl Melchert arrived on the scene and continued CPR. Vaughn could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
German who suffered a shoulder injury was transported by ambulance to Sullivan County Hospital.
While at the hospital German submitted to an alcohol test which showed he had a blood alcohol level of 0.09 percent. He was then arrested on a Level 5 felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death and transported to the Sullivan County Jail.
