(YORKTOWN) - A Yorktown family survived after a tree fell on their SUV on Sunday afternoon.
According to Sgt. Jeff Whitesell with the Yorktown Police Department, the Wright family was on their way home during the storms that caused property damage across the state when the accident happened.
The family was traveling into North Delaware County Road 500 West when they drove past the massive tree at the wrong moment.
The family heard a loud noise when the tree fell on their Toyota 4-Runner.
Police say 12-year-old Zach Wright was in the backseat with his teenage sister. The two were able to climb out of the crushed vehicle.
First responders worked for more than an hour, cutting branch by branch just to reach Jim Wright and his wife Angie who were in the front seat.
Officials believe there was nothing they could have done to avoid the freak accident.
Wright's left arm is in a brace and his sister has to wear a brace for a fracture. Their parents are still in the hospital. Jim is listed in critical condition and Angie is listed in serious condition.
