(MITCHELL) - A Bedford man was arrested on Thursday on multiple drug charges after a traffic stop by Mitchell Police.
A Mitchell Police officer pulled over a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Shane Mathies at State Road 37 and Stevens Lane at 9:34 p.m. for an expired license plate.
During that traffic stop, Mathies of Bedford told police that he had a handgun in the vehicle for which he did not have a permit.
Police searched the vehicle and not only found that handgun, but located a second one. They also found drug paraphernalia and a tube of pills, a Schedule II controlled substance, in Mathies' coat pocket. While being booked into the Lawrence County Jail, officers found Mathies also had meth.
Mathies was arrested on charges of possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a common nuisance, carrying a handgun without a permit and trafficking with an inmate.
