(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man wanted for questioning in two sexual assault cases turned himself in Monday.
Police say that 28-year-old Patrick Handy was arrested on three counts of rape and one count of strangulation. He has pleaded not guilty to the crimes and is currently being held in the Monroe County Security Center. A bail review hearing is set for December 18th at 9 a.m.
Officers were searching for Handy after a woman reported that she had been raped by Handy on Dec. 7th.
The 28-year-old woman, who had dated Handy, says after they broke up she blocked him on social media accounts and had not talk to him since February. But he began sending her emails saying he wanted to talk.
The woman met with Handy at the Monroe County Public Library on Dec. 7th and the two went back to an apartment. Handy wanted to get back together, but police say the woman declined his offer.
When she went to the bathroom, Handy allegedly forced his way and raped her. The woman was able to escape and went to a local hospital for a sexual assault exam.
Handy is also accused of raping a woman he met at a bar on Sept. 30th. The woman told police she did not consent to the sexual activity that took place in a parking lot and in her home.
