(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton announced that Communications Director Mary Catherine Carmichael will move into the newly created position of Director of Public Engagement in his administration. Carmichael will begin her new duties on January 2, 2018. A search for a new Communications Director will begin immediately.
Carmichael brings a 30-year record of public engagement throughout the community in the public, private and nonprofit arenas. She has served as Communications Director for the City since January of 2016, and prior to that was Mayor Hamilton's transition director following his successful bid for mayor.
"I appreciate City Council's approval of this much-needed new position in the Office of the Mayor. Mary Catherine's deep relationships and vast knowledge of this community and City operations will enable her to create vital opportunities, move our initiatives forward and build value for residents," said Mayor Hamilton.
"Much of my work over the last two years has been focused on sharing important information with the community. While I still will be sharing information with the community, now I also will be bringing important information back to City Hall to better inform our staff and influence policy. I look forward to connecting and engaging with many people in the coming months and beyond. Invite me to your organization's meeting!" Carmichael stated.
A graduate of Indiana University, Carmichael's salary will be $72,828.
