(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell mother was arrested on Sunday after police say she left her children home alone for several days.
Mitchell police officer arrested 25-year-old Brittany Ile on two felony counts of neglect of a dependent - placing a dependent in a situation that endangers the dependent. She posted a $755 cash bond and was released from jail. She is scheduled to appear in Lawrence County Superior Court I on January 9th at 10:30 a.m.
A Mitchell officer was on patrol in the area of Dale Street around 11:30 a.m. when several residents in the area told him two children, ages 11 and 12, had been left alone in an apartment for several days.
The officer talked to the children who said they had not seen their mother for several days. The boys told police that they had been staying with their grandmother at Persimmon Park Apartments some of the time.
Police went to the apartment complex to speak with the grandmother and found a 2-year-old with no clothes or diapers. Police say none of the children had bathed in some time.
Police contacted a Department of Child Services caseworker. In the meantime the grandmother had contacted her daughter who came to the Dale Street address and was arrested.
