(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police are investigating a road rage incident that occurred around 6 p.m. on Tuesday and left a woman with gunshot wounds to her hand and leg.
According to Monroe County Sheriff Brad Swain, the woman was driving her car near the 7000 block of South Old State Road 37 when a second car pulled and stared making hand gestures to her boyfriend, who was a passenger.
The occupants in the vehicle, a 29-year-old man and 28-year-old woman, knew the woman and her boyfriend.
According to Sheriff Swain, the boyfriend instructed the woman to pull over to "put a stop" to the gestures. During the confrontation three shots were fired striking the 26-year-old woman in the hand and leg.
Sheriff Swain says it is unclear who fired the shots.
The woman, her boyfriend and her 7-year-old son went to their home in the 500 block of South Basswood Drive and called police.
The case remains under investigation.
An investigation is ongoing, Swain said.
