(OOLITIC) - Oolitic police arrested two people Saturday on drug-related warrants.
Police arrested 35-year-old Tandi Tipton, of 1001 Walnut St., on a warrant for possession of meth, unlawful possession of a syringe and maintaining a common nuisance.
The warrant was issued for her arrest on Oct. 27th after police say Tipton had between five to ten grams of meth in her possession within 500 feet of a school. Tipton has pleaded not guilty to the crimes and was appointed a public defender. She is scheduled for a pretrial conference on January 25th at 8 a.m. in Lawrence County Superior Court I. She is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on a $20,000 surety or $2,005 cash bond.
Police also arrested 43-year-old Michael Gates, of Williams on warrants of two counts of dealing meth with enhanced circumstances, two counts of possession of meth less than 5 grams and a warrant for failure to appear. The state is also seeking a habitual offender charge.
According to a Superior Court II probable cause affidavit, officers with the Lawrence County Task Force purchased meth twice from Gates. Police say both controlled buys were made within 500 feet of a school.
Gates has pleaded not guilty to the charge and has been granted a public defender. He is scheduled for a pretrial conference on January 25th at 8 a.m. in Lawrence County Superior II. He is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on a $50,000 surety or $5,005 cash bond.
