(BEDFORD) - The 2018 Lawrence County Fair may be more than seven months away but enrollment for the largest youth organization in the country ends soon.
Online enrollment for 4-H ends Jan. 15th. Fees for Mini 4-H are $5 per child and fees for regular 4-H are $20 per child, with a maximum of $60 per family.
For those new to 4-H, enrollment can be completed online. First-time 4-H'ers can visit 4-H online to create a family profile from any smartphone, tablet or computer. All that's needed is a valid email address that will serve as the family login. Once the family profile is complete, a profile for each 4-H'er will need to be made. The 4-H club and projects can then be selected. Once registered, 4-H'ers will have until May 15 to add or drop projects.
Those who were enrolled last year, just need to update the 4-H'ers projects and information before the deadline.
Getting enrollment completed sooner rather than later is important, especially since some clubs have already started meetings.
4-H just isn't about the 4-H shows. Opportunities include 4-H Camp, 4-H Academy, Junior Leaders and other activities.
4-H volunteers are needed in several areas. Those interested in volunteering should contact the Extension Office.
Starting 4-H can be a little confusing, and the Purdue Extension-Lawrence County office is here to help. Shortly after enrolling, you will receive a letter with tips and resources to help you get started. A new family orientation will be held on January 25 at 6 pm at the Fairgrounds Expo Hall. RSVP by calling the office at (812) 275-4623 or emailing Lesley Lodmell Extension Educator 4-H and Youth Development- Lawrence County at lodmell@purdue.edu
