(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police say he injured a 9-year-old boy.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley officers were called to a home in the 2700 block of Eastern Avenue at 8:45 a.m. after a woman reported 33-year-old James Ingram had injured her son.
When police arrived at the home Ingram had left.
The woman told police she and her son were watching television in a bedroom when Ingram entered and "flopped on the bed on top of the boy."
The woman asked Ingram to get off the boy and that is when he "flopped" on her. She asked him to get off her and that is when he took the corner of the bed sheet and rapped it around the boy's neck strangling him.
"The boy complained of pain and told the officers he was having a hard time swallowing," Chief Parsley added. "Ingram, who is a family member, but not the child's father, was asked to leave the home.
But before he did the mother told police Ingram allegedly used an open hand and smacked the boy on the bottom several times.
The woman later came to the police station and signed a battery affidavit.
Ingram was arrested at his home in the 3500 block of Riverbluff Road without incident and booked into the Lawrence County Jail.
