Police say there is video evidence to shows Carpenter slapping the child, cussing, and standing over him with her hands on the toddler.
Carpenter was arrested after a family member contacted the Monroe County Sheriff's Department.
When confronted by police, Carpenter admitted to slapping the toddler and placing her hand over his mouth and admitted that she knew the child was having a hard time breathing.
She told the deputy she "felt like a monster."
The Indiana Department of Child Services has launched an investigation.
