(DAVIESS CO.) - The Daviess County Solid Waste District has issued a reminder stating that their landfill is for Daviess County residents only.
The Daviess County Landfill is county owned and operated by Daviess County. It is restricted by law to accept waste generated in Daviess County only.
"The landfill personnel have turned away numerous vehicles because the public was misinformed or unaware of the landfill rules of operation," the notice explains.
"The Daviess County Landfill does not accept any trash from any other county, regardless of false rumors or unfounded information. Legal real estate restrictions were implemented upon the operations of the Daviess County Landfill for the benefit of the taxpayers to limit usage of the landfill to only Daviess County residential and business waste."
As part of state and federal regulations, random inspections have been conducted on incoming loads and personnel have noticed an increase in waste coming from surrounding areas.
"Anyone, including Daviess County residents or businesses, who knowingly bring in trash from another county will be deemed guilty of a Class A infraction, will lose their landfill privileges and can fined up to $2,500," the notice states. "Due to an increased tonnage intake, this notice serves as a gentle reminder to our public as to the law in Daviess County. Know that we are continually monitoring our waste stream and collecting information in an effort to determine those specifically responsible for the illegal dumping."
