New Brown County Performing Arts Center Receives Government Approval

Last updated on Monday, January 8, 2018

(NASHVILLE) - A new concert venue, Maple Leaf Performing Arts Center, has all the government approval needed to begin construction this spring.

Maple Leaf Performing Arts Center is a 2,000 seat indoor concert hall that will be located on State Road 46, just outside of Nashville city limits in Brown County. The performing arts center will feature a variety of genres of music.

The Brown County Council voted unanimously in November to pledge innkeepers tax revenue to pay the mortgage of the building. The innkeepers tax would be used as a "backup" revenue source if the Maple Leaf does not bring in enough money to cover the mortgage payments, says Lorren Matthas, with the county's financial adviser, H.J. Umbaugh & Associates. Innkeepers tax is a 5-percent tax paid on overnight room rentals in the county. The goal is to draw more tourism to Brown County.

Brown County Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jane Ellis says the venue will be county owned.

Ellis says they'll accept a construction bid soon and break ground by Spring 2018. If all goes as planned, the concert hall could open by the summer of 2019.
