Two Hurt In Crash On Yockey Road

Last updated on Wednesday, January 31, 2018

(MITCHELL) - Two men were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Yockey Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Lawrence County police were alerted to the accident at 12:47 p.m.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 47-year-old Christopher Marlow of Mitchell turned west from his driveway on Yockey Road into the path of a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Austin Tillett.

Police say Tillet was traveling east on Yockey Road in a 2010 Toyota Corolla at a high-rate of speed.

Earlier in the day, an off-duty Bedford Police Department officer reportedly clocked Tillett driving 86 mph in a 35 mph zone on Dixie Highway, but could not safely pursue him, according to the report.

Marlow told police he attempted to accelerate to avoid a collision, but Tillett's car hit the rear of Marlow's white 1995 Ford F-350 and ripped out the rear axle.

Tillett's vehicle continued forward and struck a mailbox belonging to Benny Grimes before stopping in a field.

Tillett was trapped in his vehicle and needed to be freed from the vehicle.

Tillett suffered several fractures and was flown by helicopter to Kosair Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Marlow suffered head injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
