(WASHINGTON) - A Washington man was arrested Friday after he crashed his pickup on Friday afternoon.
According to Indiana State Police Trooper Jarrod Lents, at approximately 12:08 p.m. he responded to the report of a one-vehicle crash with injuries on County Road 500 East, south of County Road 600 South. When Trooper Lents arrived he saw a two-toned silver/maroon Dodge Ram off of the east side of the roadway. There was no one around the vehicle, however, Trooper Lents observed three people walking north on County Road 500 East, approximately a quarter mile north of the crash scene.
Trooper Lentz left the crash scene to talk to the people walking. When he arrived he noticed a female had a large and deep cut above her eye and was bleeding down her face. She was also being supported by the other two people.
Trooper Lents had her sit down and provided her gauze so she could apply pressure to the wound and waited for emergency crews to arrive.
A juvenile female was uninjured and Trooper Lents could smell the strong odor of alcohol coming the male, 41-year-old Rhett Truelove, of Washington. When Trooper Lents began asking questions about the crash, Truelove became uncooperative.
Trooper Lents was able to determine that Truelove was the driver at the time of the crash and he was intoxicated. Trooper Lents also located meth and other items commonly associated with drug use.
Truelove was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an injury accident, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a minor passenger, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, neglect of a dependent, possession of meth, illegal possession of a syringe, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of drug paraphernalia and false informing.
Truelove was transported to the Daviess County Jail. The injured female was airlifted to St. Vincent's Hospital in Evansville and treated for her head injuries. The third passenger, a juvenile, was uninjured and was released to a family member.
The 1997 Dodge was removed from the scene by G and M Wrecker service.
