(BEDFORD) - The Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department battled a house fire on South Leatherwood Road on Wednesday morning.
A passerby, Danny Key, reported the blaze at 8:52 a.m.
When firefighters arrived the fire was on a porch area and had traveled into the home, according to Shawswick Lt. Bryan Hutchinson.
Lt. Hutchinson was the first firefighter on the scene.
"We had the fire out quickly," Lt. Hutchinson says. "It started on the porch and then got into the house. There was minimal damage to a bedroom, but there was smoke and water damage throughout the home."
Firefighters had the fire out by 9:20 a.m.
"No one was home when the fire started and we still have not found out who owns or is living in the home," Lt. Hutchinson says. "We tried everything to try and find out who lived there but have had no luck."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation
Oolitic Volunteer Fire Department firefighters, Lawrence County Sheriff's Department deputies and an IU Health Hospital ambulance crews assisted at the scene.
