(GREENE CO.) - Eastern Greene head coach Joey Paridaen is leaving to coach Evansville North football.
Paridaen will replace Bret Szabo, formerly the coach at Bedford North Lawrence, who stepped down in October after a 12-39 record in five seasons. Paridaen submitted his letter of resignation which was accepted this week. It will take effect at the end of the school year.
Paridaen is moving a little closer to home. He resides in Fort Branch - just north of Evansville. Why Eastern was appealing - Evansville is just 10 minutes from his home, the facilities for the high school, built in 2012, is intriguing and Evansville North is a Class 5A school with a growing enrollment base.
During his four-year tenure at Eastern Greene, Paridaen oversaw the football program's steady growth. He led the Thunderbirds to their first winning season in 2015, first sectional title in 2016. Eastern Greene won all of its regular-season games in 2017 and their first regional and semistate championships in 2017. In the Class 1A state title game, Eastern lost to Pioneer, 42-14.
