(BLOOMINGTON) - The Superintendent of the Indiana State Police, Doug Carter, has announced the promotion of Captain Kevin Hobson to the rank of Major. Major Hobson will now serve as the Commander of ISP Special Investigations.
Major Hobson's primary responsibilities will be to manage and supervise the Criminal Investigation Division and assist the Deputy Superintendent of Investigations in directing the total criminal investigative effort of the Department.
Major Hobson will also direct the function of the Criminal Investigation Division, manage the Special Investigation equipment resources, prepare and manage the Criminal Investigation Division budget and plan and manage projects funded by federal grants.
A native of Bloomfield, Major Hobson is a 1991 graduate of Bloomfield High School. He graduated from Indiana University where he studied Health Administration before being accepted to the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in June of 1995. In December of 1995, he was appointed as a Trooper and assigned to the Versailles Post where he worked Switzerland County.
During his career with the State Police, Hobson worked the road for two years as a Trooper before being re-assigned to the Drug Enforcement Section, where he worked for the next nine years. Major Hobson then served as a Crime Scene Investigative Sergeant for the Criminal Investigation Division and was posted at the Bloomington District. In 2009, Hobson was promoted and served as the District Investigative Commander at the Bloomington District where he assisted the District Commander to determine crime problems and action plans. In 2013, Hobson was promoted to Lieutenant where he primarily directed the activities of personnel assigned to the Drug Enforcement Section. In 2015, Major Hobson was promoted to the rank of Captain where he served as the Deputy Commander of ISP Special Investigations.
Major Hobson and his wife Penny reside in Greene County.
