(BLOOMFIELD) - A groundbreaking on the Greene County Jail expansion will take place Thursday.
After more than a year of discussion and planning by county leaders, a groundbreaking ceremony will be at 2 p.m.
The Greene County Daily World reports, the roughly $14.8 million expansion will bring the count at the jail to 288 beds, with the fully-built pod on the east side of the jail adding 26 two-man cells, 12 four-man cells and three dormitory areas with a total of 104 beds.
In addition, the expansion will also include 26 beds in the intake and booking areas and maintain 58 of the 84 beds in the current jail facility.
The commissioners and Greene County Council have been working with Garmong as the project manager and design firm RQAW for the expansion. The plan is to complete the expansion, then go into the existing jail facility to do renovations.
