(MITCHELL) - Hoosier Hills Food Bank will hold a food box giveaway and sign-up on Thursday at the First Church of God, 12th and Oak streets in Mitchell.
Distribution and sign-up hours will be from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
The Senior Food Box includes 40 pounds of staple food items such as cereal, pasta, juice, shelf-stable milk, canned fruits and vegetables, beans or peanut butter, a can of beef stew and a two-pound block of cheese.
To qualify for the program, seniors must live in Lawrence County, be 60 years of age or older, and earn a total household income of under $1,316 a month or $15,782 a year; for a two-person household the totals are $1,784 a month or $21,398. Once a senior is enrolled, they are entitled to receive a box every month.
Before applicants can pick up a box, food bank staff will need to verify their address with a photo ID.
