(BLOOMINGTON) - In an effort to combat Indiana’s high rates of infant mortality, Monroe County Public Health Clinic introduced the Nurse-Family Partnership program.
The Nurse-Family Partnerships celebrates with a grand opening on Thursday, Feb. 22 fro 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The Nurse-Family Partnership program provides nurses to meet mom in her home and help her through the rest of her pregnancy and up to the child's second birthday.
In addition to improving pregnancy outcomes and child health and development, Nurse-Family Partnership also aims to improve the economic self-sufficiency of the families they assist.
In order to be eligible, women need to be first-time mothers, 28 weeks gestation or before, and WIC or Medicaid-eligible.
The program covers moms in Monroe, Lawrence, Orange, Green and Owen counties. The Indiana State Department of Health hopes to expand to all of Indiana's counties in the future.
This program is fully funded by a grant from the Indiana State Department of Health and is free for the moms enrolled.
The event be held at IU Health Bloomington Community Health, 333 East Miller Dr., Bloomington
Special guest speaker will be State Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box
Doors open at 3:30 p.m. with guest speakers at 4 p.m. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 4:30 p.m.
