(SALEM) - The Salem City Police Department is seeking donations to purchase a second canine for the department.
Officer Chad Webb says the department needs a second canine for narcotic detection on second shift to help with traffic stops and to search homes and buildings.
Police dogs are expensive - $20,000 or more. That price includes the dog, training and needed equipment.
The department has raised around $8,000. They have started a Go Fund Me page. So far 13 people have donated $1,130 in a 24 day period.
Residents can also bring donations to the police department or mail in a check with K-9 in the memo line to Salem City Police, 38 Public Square, Salem, Indiana 47167.
