(BLOOMINGTON) - Students from Monroe, Brown, Greene, Morgan and Owen counties will compete Saturday in the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee at the Monroe County Public Library.
The spelling bee will begin at 11 a.m. in the library's auditorium, and is co-sponsored by Indiana University's Media School and School of Education.
The event is free and open to the public.
Seven Monroe County students have qualified for the competition, including last year's champion, Jackson Creek eighth-grader Daniel Larsen.
The winner will be awarded an expenses-paid trip to the National Spelling Bee semifinals and championship May 27 to June 1 in National Harbor, Maryland, just down the Potomac River from the nation's capital.
