(SEYMOUR) - A 30-year-old Seymour man was arrested for child molesting on Thursday.
Onelfer Salazar of Seymour was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 12:04 a.m. Thursday and was being held without bond pending his initial hearing.
Salazar was arrested after Seymour Police Department received a call around 7:10 p.m. from the child's father Wednesday who wanted officers to conduct a welfare check on his 9-year-old daughter, Cpl. Devin Cornwell said.
Police say the girl's father had a conversation with his daughter about an hour prior, to calling to report the crime. She made comments during that phone conversation that led the father to believe his child was in danger and being abused.
Police say the girl lived with her mother and Salazar, the mother's boyfriend, on the south side of Seymour.
Because the family only spoke Spanish, police used a translator to request the two come to the police station for an interview.
Child Protective Services were also alerted to interview the child.
During his interview, Salazar confessed to forcing the girl to touch him in a sexual manner at least six times over the past two months. Police learned a 4-year-old child was in the room when the incidents occurred, but it wasn't clear if the child saw anything.
