(BROWNSTOWN) - A Seymour man is facing additional charges after jail staff discovered he smuggled drugs into the jail on Thursday morning.
22-year-old Joshua Riley was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown on a theft charge at 8:48 p.m. Wednesday. Jail staff then received information that Riley was in possession of drugs in his cell block around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
According to a press release, Jail Commander Charlie Murphy and Jackson County Police Sgt. Josh Clark went to Riley's cell and discovered a bag containing a gram of meth.
During an investigation where officers interviewed Riley and other inmates and reviewed surveillance video officers learned Riley swallowed the bag of drugs prior to his arrest. He passed the drugs after being booked into his cell.
During a recorded phone visit with his girlfriend, Riley discussed having the drugs, and his girlfriend told him to flush them before he got caught.
Jail officials believe Riley used part of the meth before it was seized by officers.
Riley is now facing additional charges of felony charge of trafficking.
