(STATEHOUSE) - State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) has been selected to participate in the 64th annual U.S. Army War College National Security Seminar held June 4-7 in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
NSS is a four-day event in which Army War College students and invited guests examine current national security issues and exchange candid dialogue. The seminar is designed to help participants gain a better understanding of the perspectives and concerns of the defense community.
"This is a unique opportunity to learn about national security from experts in the field," May said. "I will be able to take the knowledge I gain from this seminar and apply it toward helping the state's strong military network."
May will be among nearly 160 business, government, academic and community leaders selected from across the country to participate in the academic seminar alongside students from the Army War College.
May was nominated for the seminar by LTC Andrew J. "Coby" Short, a student at Army War College. Both May and Short graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School.
"Chris is deeply involved in the community and is exactly the type of person who would benefit from NSS week," Short said. "With the capability of being a strategic leader at both the state and national level, he will be an asset to the conference."
Each day of the seminar includes a guest speaker who cover varied topics such as the challenges of civil-military relations, the role of domestic politics in national security, globalization, foreign policy, international security issues and the future role of the United States.
