(SULLIVAN CO.) - The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office says the search for a man wanted in two states came to an end late Sunday.
Sheriff Clark Cottom says 44-year-old William Lester Harris, formerly of Lewis, Indiana, was booked into the Sullivan County Jail on a warrant for failure to register as sex offender.
Harris is also wanted in Illinois for aggravated driving under the influence.
Cottom says Harris narrowly escaped capture in Crawford County, Illinois late Sunday. Illinois authorities alerted Sullivan County police that Harris had crossed the river at Hutsonville, heading into Indiana. Sullivan County deputies spotted Harris' vehicle and pulled him over. He was taken into custody without incident.
Harris is being held on $12,000 bond in the Sullivan County Jail.
