(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was flown by helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after being struck by a vehicle on 29th Street late Wednesday night.
According to a Bedford Police report, 18-year-old Megan Pemberton of Mitchell was traveling westbound on 29th Street in a 2008 Jeep Wrangler approaching Illinois Street. At the same time 41-year-old Christopher Hill and another pedestrian, Hali Reynolds, were walking westbound in the same lane of traffic.
Pemberton told police she moved to the left to give the pedestrians room, but when she got close to the pedestrians, Hill entered the roadway in front of her vehicle and was struck by Pemberton's Jeep.
Reynolds told police that she and Hill were walking in the roadway because there are no sidewalks on 29th Street and there was mud on the side of the road and they were having to walk around puddles from the melting snow.
Reynolds told police she heard a "thump" and saw Hill sliding down the road.
Reynolds told police Pemberton stopped and dialed 911 along with her and began rendering aid to Hill.
Hill suffered a skull fracture and was transported to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital and then flown by an IU Health Hospital helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
Pemberton was transported to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for a drug/alcohol test as required by state law and those results are pending.
