(BLOOMINGTON) - Local broadcaster, producer and writer Yaël Ksander has been named by Mayor John Hamilton as the new Communications Director for the City of Bloomington.
Ksander will replace Mary Catherine Carmichael, who has assumed the role of Public Engagement Director. Ksander will begin her position on April 2.
Most recently, Ksander served as a writer and editor at the Indiana University School of Global and International Studies. Listeners of Indiana Public Media WFIU will recognize Ksander as a longtime content producer, including the award-winning A Moment of Science among other popular features.
Ksander holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia, and advanced degrees from Columbia University and Indiana University.
A resident of Bloomington for 20 years, Ksander has been an active volunteer with several area organizations including the Center for Sustainable Living, the Foundation of Monroe County Community Schools, Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, and Friends of the T.C. Steele State Historic Site.
"Yaël has established herself as a trusted communicator with a great understanding of this community. We look forward to having her knowledge, experience and talent on our team," Mayor Hamilton commented.
Ksander said, "I am honored to have the opportunity to share information from our busy, progressive city government, especially at this action-packed time in the history of Bloomington. I'm excited to get started listening to residents, learning, and representing the City of Bloomington."
Ksander's salary will be $66,000.
