(BEDFORD) - Firefighters from three volunteer fire departments battled a mobile home fire at 114 Washboard Road Wednesday morning.
Marshall VFD was notified of the blaze at 5:46 a.m.
According to Marshall VFD Assistant Chief Jason Martin, when the first firefighters arrived on the scene 70 percent of the single-wide mobile home was engulfed in flames.
Oolitic and Perry VFDs assisted at the scene.
"The fire spread to engulf two vehicles and a pull behind camper," he added.
Mike and Cindy Burtis and their son Chris Wyatt and his 9-year-old son and the Burtis' 3-year-old grandson escaped the blaze. Cindy was injured after she tripped and fell coming out of the house.
"She was carrying the 3-year-old," says Assistant Chief Martin. "She was treated by IU Health Hospital ambulance crew. The child was not injured."
Firefighters quickly went into action and at 6:38 a.m. had the fire under control.
"We then went into extensive clean up and salvage mode," Assistant Chief Martin added. "We were there for about five hours."
Assistant Chief Martin believes the fire started under the front porch.
"But we don't know for sure," he added. "It is still under investigation. The state fire marshal, insurance inspectors and myself will be on the scene again soon to see if we can determine the cause."
Also assisting at the scene was Tabernacle of Praise Emergency Services and the American Red Cross.
