(HUNTINGBURG) - A Huntingburg man was jailed after police say he allegedly wrote more than $37,000 in bad checks from a business account he established through Old National Bank.
Huntingburg Police began their investigation in January after they received information from the Huntingburg IGA regarding multiple bad checks from a business account belonging to ARC Welding LLC. They then requested the assistance of Indiana State Police.
Indiana State Police say the owner of that account 42-year-old Marc Schroy, only put in $100 when he opened the account and never deposited a penny more. He then began writing checks. The account was eventually closed due to insufficient funds.
Police say Schroy wrote 32 bad checks totaling more than $13,257 at the Huntingburg IGA and other bad checks at various locations in Indiana and Ohio totaling more than $24,000.
An arrest warrant was issued. Schroy turned himself in on Tuesday. He is facing felony charges of fraud on financial institute, check fraud, two counts of theft and 29 misdemeanor counts of check deception and two misdemeanor counts of theft.
According to authorities, the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Huntingburg Police Department or Indiana State Police.
