How Does the Program Work?
In an effort to combat Indiana's high rates of infant mortality, IU Health Community Health, introduced the Nurse-Family Partnerships program in January 2018, serving moms in Monroe, Lawrence, Orange, Green and Owen counties. The Nurse-Family Partnership program is a home-visiting program pairing first-time, low-income mothers with their own personal nurse to assist her through her pregnancy and until the child's second birthday.
In addition to improving pregnancy outcomes and child health and development, Nurse-Family Partnerships also aims to improve the economic self-sufficiency of the families they assist. In order to be eligible, women need to be first-time mothers, 28 weeks gestation or before, and WIC or Medicaid-eligible.
The program is fully funded by a grant from the Indiana State Department of Health and is free for the moms enrolled.
