(ORLEANS) - Orange County REMC has proven that “small change, changes lives.” Since beginning the Operation Round Up Program in 2003, the local electric co-op, with the help of its members, has given more than $456,814.91 back to community programs, individuals and non-profit organizations.
In the most recent grant cycle, the Board of Trustees of the Orange County Rural Electric Community Fund, Inc. awarded eight of grants totaling $6,950.00.
"Operation Round Up is a simple concept that allows us to partner with our members to make a big difference in our community," said Orange County REMC CEO Matt Deaton. "Members allow the REMC to 'round up' their electric bill to the next dollar, and that extra change goes into a fund overseen by a board of trustees, who are also REMC members. Each quarter, local clubs, civic groups and non-profit organizations can apply for grants from the Operation Round Up fund. The most any member contributes in a year is less than $6, but those nickels, dimes and pennies really add up. We are proud of the number of projects and programs Operation Round Up has helped fund over the years. "
Listed below are the most recent Operation Round Up grants approved for distribution.
Grant applications are available at the Orange County REMC headquarters building located at 7133 North State Road 337, Orleans, Indiana, or on the website, www.myremc.coop, under the "News and Events" menu. Any individual, group, or organization located within Orange County REMC's service territory is eligible to apply for a grant. The service territory includes Orange County and parts of Lawrence, Washington, Crawford, and Martin Counties. Operation Round Up funds will not be awarded to pay utility bills or as political contributions.
