(MITCHELL) - Spring Mill State Park released 750 Rainbow Trout into their lake on Tuesday.
The trout averaged 10 to 11 inches in length and weigh around a half-pound. They have been raised for the past two years at the East Fork State Fish Hatchery near Dogwood Lake in Montgomery.
The Department of Natural Resources restocking effort kicked off last year with the re-introduction of rainbow trout into the lake in March, when 750 fish were added to the lake. It was the first time the lake had been stocked since 2006. Six months later, 440 channel catfish were put in the lake.
Last year, 302 anglers harvested 312 trout from the lake and released an additional 59 for a total of 371 trout.
The success of the season led the DNR to add even more trout to the lake this spring.
