Spring Clocks Forward Saturday, Check Smoke Detectors

Last updated on Friday, March 9, 2018

(UNDATED) - With the first day of spring right around the corner, daylight saving time begins Sunday, March 11 at 2 a.m.

Residents are reminded to move clocks forward one hour before going to bed Saturday night.

Beginning on the second Sunday in March and ending the first Sunday in November, the United States first observed the time change in 1918.

We'll change the clocks again on Sunday, November 6, 2018, gaining a bit more rest for your hibernating needs.

Volunteer firefighters is reminding residents to check their smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they're in working order.

Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association said the end of Daylight Savings Time this weekend is a good reminder to check the batteries in alarms. The group says that any alarms or detectors that are more than 10 years old should be replaced.

The association says that three of every five deaths attributed to a fire occur in homes without working smoke alarms.
