(JUDAH) - Seven people were injured in a 3-vehicle-accident at the intersection of State Road 37 and Old State Road 37 North on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 24-year-old Lij Hacker of Bloomington was traveling north on State Road 37, just south of Old State Road 37 North intersection when he told police that he took his eyes off the road when the light was green, but when he looked back up the light apparently changed and two vehicles were crossing northwest on State Road 37.
Hacker's 2015 Chevrolet Cruze traveled through the red light and t-boned a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 40-year-old Godson Wright of Bedford.
The collision pushed Wright's pickup into a 2017 Buick Envision driven by 26-year-old Erica Daughtery of Springville.
Hacker complained of stomach and pelvis pain and was treated at the scene.
Wright, who suffered internal chest injuries including a possible collapsed lung, was trapped inside of his vehicle. He was flown from the scene by StatFlight Medical helicopter and taken to the University of Louisville Hospital.
Also injured in Wright's pickup were 40-year-old Kristen Smith of Mitchell, 39-year-old Lora Kirkman of Bedford and a 10-year-old boy from Bedford. They complained of abdominal pain, head, knee and lower leg pain, a cut near the eye, respectively. All three were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Daughtery complained of head pain. Her passenger, 87-year-old Judith Miller of Harrodsburg, complained of chest pain. Both were taken by ambulance to IU Bloomington Hospital for treatment.
Hacker refused to submit to a chemical test. A search warrant was obtained granting officer to obtain a blood sample for Hacker.
Because Wright and Daughtery were taken to out-of-county hospitals they could not be read Indiana's Implied Consent Warning.
Responding to the scene were members of IU Health and AMR Ambulance Services, Bedford Fire Department, Oolitic Volunteer Fire Department and Marshall Township VFD and members of the Lawrence County Police Department Fatal/Serious Bodily Injury Alcohol/Drug Crash Team.
All three vehicles were towed by Stone City Collision Wrecker Service to their impound lot and are being held pending further investigation.
