(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour woman was hospitalized for evaluation Saturday after escaping her burning home.
The Seymour Tribune reports Betty Grant was treated at the emergency room at Schneck Medical Center after the fire reported around 2 p.m. at her home at 644 Berkshire Court near Seymour Middle School.
She escaped the home before firefighters arrived and was taken by ambulance from the scene after an officer arrived at the home.
Seymour Fire Department Capt. Keith Campbell says when firefighters arrived on the scene flames were burning through the roof of the one-story brick home.
It took firefighters about an hour and a half to get the fire under control.
Capt. Campbell told The Tribune that the fire was difficult to extinguish because of the size of the home and the amount of property inside. Those conditions allowed the fire to spread easily from one place to another and restricted movement in the house.
Campbell estimated that much of the home and its contents were destroyed.
