(SULLIVAN CO.) - The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Sullivan man who was found dead in his burning pick-up truck in Merom early Sunday morning.
Sheriff Clark Cottom says 20-year-old Mitchell Ridge missed a turn on 3rd Street near the Merom Cemetery. Sheriff Cottom says Ridge apparently lost control of his pick-up truck on a curve and ran off the road. The truck then traveled across a grass field and caught fire.
However, the reason the fire started is unknown at this time.
Sheriff Cottom says the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office is assisting with the investigation.
Cottom says an autopsy showed no signs of foul play, however there were indications of smoke inhalation.
The preliminary autopsy findings are that Ridge's death was consistent with an accident.
Toxicology reports are pending from the state laboratory.
The investigation remains open as officials piece together the evening's happenings, and await further test results.
If anyone had seen or spoke with Ridge late Saturday evening, they are asked to contact Sullivan County Sheriff's Office Detective Ron Elliott at (812) 268-4308.
