(BLOOMINGTON) - A woman who was shot by her boyfriend early Monday has suffered a bruised spine and paralysis below her ribs, police say.
Police say 31-year-old Antoine Hill shot 25-year-old Sara Conlin with a .40-caliber handgun then turned the gun on himself on the couple's front porch in an attempted murder-suicide.
Officers with the Bloomington Police Department were called to the 500 block of Basswood Drive just before 3 a.m. after a report of a domestic dispute. Neighbors called police after hearing the couple arguing.
Neighbors told police the victim was yelling for help before they heard gunshots.
When officers arrived they found Conlin with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder lying on the porch. She was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for where she underwent surgery.
Police found Hill, lying on the porch with a gunshot wound to the head. The gun believed to be used in the crime was also located. He was taken to IU Bloomington hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Conlin told detectives that she and Hill started arguing inside before eventually moving outside. Once on the porch, the she told police Hill hit her in the face and then pulled out a handgun. He fired one round at the her, striking her in the right shoulder. He then turned the gun on himself.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Sara Conlin and her two children.
Those close to Conlin say the money will be used for medical bills and daily living expenses.
