(BEDFORD) - Construction on Phase 1 of the connector trail that will link the Milwaukee Trail to downtown Bedford is near completion.
Phase 1 encompasses 14th Street, between K and L streets, and 17th Street, east of L Street.
Milestone Contractors, of Bloomington is completing the work.
The 14th Street portion should be done in a week or so depending on weather.
Construction on Phase 2 has begun. Phase 2 runs along Lincoln Avenue/L Street, from 10th Street to 17th Street.
The sidewalk will be converted to a pedestrian trail, which is wider than the standard sidewalk. The trail will be 10 feet wide and have an adjacent buffer between the trail and the street.
Phase 2 should be completed by the end of July.
