(DUBOIS CO.) - The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public the so called ‘Grandparent Scam’ is making the rounds again.
These scammers use ruthless stories to get caring family member to send money.
Sometimes they will pretend to be a grandchild. Other times, they will say they are the legal representative of the family member calling on their behalf.
The scammer advises the child has been injured in an accident, is in legal trouble, or in jail and they need bail money.
The scammer's method of payment is a wire transfer of money.
These scams are easily thwarted by simply hanging up, however, if you are uncertain about their validity, you can contact the affected family member's immediate family or contact the officials allegedly involved in the case to verify the information.
Police say Don't Wire or Send Money or give out any Banking Information to anyone contacting you over the phone without verifying their information first.
