(FRENCH LICK) - French Lick man died after what authorities believe was an accidental shooting at the Shirley Creek campground in the Hoosier National Forest.
Indiana State Police say 21-year-old Daniel Barrett Allbright was camping with friends after a 19-year-old friend fumbled with a handgun and accidentally fired a shot.
Allbright suffered a single gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed today in Bedford.
Police say the friend, who is also from French Lick, believed he heard something in the woods at the Shirley Creek campgrounds. He drew a gun and pointed it toward the trees.
The gun discharged when he attempted to holster it, with one shot striking Allbright in the back of the head.
Although police do not believe foul play was a factor in the incident, circumstances surrounding it will be presented to Orange County Prosecutor Kelly Minton for review.
