(MITCHELL) - Mitchell Board of Works approved spending $2,400 on the American with Disabilities Act-compliant alert pads to be embedded into the concrete on sidewalks to alert the visually impaired of an upcoming roadway. In addition, $2,000 was spent on rebar at Bender Lumber.
The Times-Mail reports, this year, the city is budgeted to spend $20,000 for new sidewalks throughout the city. That money is being used to help homeowners replace sidewalks in front of their homes as well as assist Hoosier Uplands with its continued sidewalk replacement program in Mitchell. Last year, with help from the city, Hoosier Uplands poured more than a mile in new sidewalks throughout Mitchell.
The city also is moving forward with patching potholes. The street department spent $1,100 on cold patch from Cave Quarries and $350 in asphalt oil from the city of Bedford to use the patching machine on roads.
The board also approved paying $720 to Neal Stillman for the removal of seven tree stumps.
