(UNDATED) - The Indiana Department of Transportation invites everyone to celebrate with them as officials observe National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week April 9-13.
Throughout the week, INDOT Southwest will be hosting events at different locations and on their social media pages to bring attention to work zone safety. The theme for the 2018 Federal Highway Administration's NWZAW is "Work Zone Safety: Everyone's Responsibility."
The schedule of events for April 9-13 is as follows:
Friday - Trash Bash!
INDOT invites the public to join them and share their social media events as officials work to bring awareness to work zone safety across the Hoosier State. National Work Zone Awareness Week takes place across the United States, with partnerships between state departments of transportation (DOT), national road safety organizations, government agencies, private companies, and individuals. It's a time to spread awareness of the importance of driving and working safely in roadway work zones.
The 2015 Fatality Analysis Report System shows that in four out of five work zone crashes, the drivers and their passengers are the ones killed in the crash. FARS also reported 700 work zone fatalities and 35,526 work zone injuries in 2015. In fact, there are enough individuals injured and killed in work zones each year in the United States to fill a sports arena, according to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
